Important Information for Coaches, Players and Umpires - Fran Riachards

by andrea » Tue Dec 10, 2013 3:55 pm

Following the National Coaching and Officiating Conference it was identified that within England there are some inconsistencies with 'Advancing the Penalty' and persistent infringements. This information is important for all coaches, players and umpires, please
ensure this is shared within your Club, County or Region so everyone is aware.

Advancing the Penalty

When may 'Advancing the Penalty' be used?
Advancing the Penalty may only be used for:
Rule 19.2 Deliberate delaying of play when it involves the incorrect setting or taking of penalty where the
infringer shall be penalised as a disputing player and Rule 19.3 Dispute with an umpire.

Are there any other situations allowed within the rule book when advancing the
penalty may be used?

No

Advancing a Penalty should not be used too frequently but it is an effective way of dealing with dissent. It is the penalty that is advanced, so it must be set correctly in the new position and all rules regarding the setting of penalties must be observed i.e. Rule 18.3.2 'The penalised player must stand beside and away from the player taking the penalty
so as not to impede this player in any way.' This means that unless the penalty is advanced into an area where the offending player may not go the offending player will always move to where the penalty has been advanced to the penalty should be advanced half
a third or less. When advancing into the goal circle it would not be usual to advance the penalty right up to the goalpost unless the infringement was on the edge of the goal circle and it was felt sufficiently serious enough for this to
be done umpires must take care how far they advance a penalty when it involves the other umpire's area.

Please be aware that any persistent infringements should be dealt with using common-sense as per Rule 20: WARNING, SUSPENSION AND ORDERING OFF: For rough or dangerous play, persistent and/or deliberate breaking of the rules, misconduct
or any other conduct which is considered inappropriate, the Umpire may, in addition to any penalty awarded.

Please make sure you share this information with everyone you can so that the message is shared nationally and all coaches, players and umpires involved in our great game have the correct information

by andrea » Tue Sep 10, 2013 12:00 pm

If you have members that are quite confident in umpiring & been doing it at your training sessions then I've been advised that they can go on this course which is being held in Basingstoke on the above date.

These courses cost £32.50 but you can ask for funding from Hampshire Netball to help towards the cost.

Netball First Aid & SPC & TTL - Fran Richards

All teams/clubs have to have a SCUK Safeguarding this season. But clubs with caps do not have to do the course but will have to do the time to listen at some point.

Important info about this season‏ - Kim Belbin

by andrea » Sat Sep 07, 2013 12:00 pm

Hope you all had a nice summer and are looking forward to the new season. There are a couple of things the ADNA need to make you aware of. The ADNA held a team managers meeting to brief the teams on the new season.

As you know the matches are to be held at Andover Leisure Centre. There are a couple of car parks that are within easy reach (and free). There is the Andover Leisure Centre car park. The insurance company car park which is just up from the leisure centre car park, the barriers should be open. Or there is Lidl car park and you just walk down the side of Lidl and across the road

We have the sports hall from 6.45 until 9.45. When you arrive at reception please state you are there to play netball and they will let you through the barriers. If you have an early game you can go straight into the hall after 6.45. If your team are playing the late game you MUST congregate on the balcony on the first floor. You will not be allowed downstairs until 8.15.

At 8.15 if the early game has not finished a hooter will sound and this means matches must end. This is so that the second games time is not impeded.

The only time a match will be cancelled is if the weather is snowy and it affects travel to get to the match. The ADNA have decided to use the schools as a bench mark. If the schools have closed then the matches will be cancelled.

Matches MUST start on time. Each team have to make sure they are on court ready to play for 7pm/8.20pm. The game will always start on time, if one of the teams are not ready and on court the game maybe forfeit.

If you are scoring you must stand together on the side line and shout the score out.

Spectators must stand on the balcony.

Bags and coats, otherwise know as 'the bench' will be located at the side line next to the barrier that separates the two courts.

Should be nice to play inside :)

NOTE of ugency‏ - Fran Richards

by andrea » Sun Apr 14, 2013 10:00 am

Please relay to your team members - you must provide a scorer before or after your match on the court that you are/have played on. If you see 2 people scoring please do not just take it that it has been covered, the umpire has most properly managed to get someone to stand in because you are late, if you have not covered your own scoring your team will be incur a fine. (If you cancel your match you still have to send a score or organise one to cover on your behalf.)

If you have arranged for another team to cover this is acceptable, however, this is still your responsibility that they are there. (Remind them)

Re: Umpiring

Team Umpire's

If you are not able to cover your umpiring may I remind you it is still your responsibility to find cover either before or on the day, it is a LAST result that you contact the Umpire Secretary (Cheryl Green) you need to refer to the umpire rota & the umpire contact list to check who is not down to umpire. You may incur a fine if this process is not followed.

All teams

Matches are to commence 7pm prompt, if teams have not taken the court you will start/restart your time, if only one team are on the court in position you will follow EN rule 21.3

(i) if a team fails to take the court by the start or restart of play, the umpire shall penalise for deliberate delaying (refer to rul 19.2).

(ii) if a team fails to take the court within one (1) minute of the designate time for the start or restart of play (refer rul 2), the umpires shall award the game to the non-offending team.

Thank you for your co-operation on the above.

Safeguarding - Fran Richards

by andrea » Fri Apr 12, 2013 11:00 am

From next season 2013/2014 EN have announced that every Team/Club has to have a safeguard Officer.

Please read the below email as an urgency & you MUST discuss this with you Team/Club, however, note if you have caps you have already have this in place.

So the league will be putting forward to hold this course here so can you confirm that you will be sending someone from your team?

all depends on who is entering teams next season but we need to do this course before 2013/2014 season.

We have a meeting next Thurs 18th we can confirm a date & venue hopefully after this meeting.

Safeguarding - Carol Alexander

by andrea » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:00 am

It was identified at the planning meeting that leagues wanted more CPD.

As a result HNA have agreed to follow EN guidelines to ensure all clubs have a welfare officer.

HNA will fund 1 place for each HNA affiliated club (to a total of £500) to attend a ProtectingYoung Persons course to be run by Brett Bader.

HNA have already done this for one league and would like to give others the same opportunity to do so. Those clubs with a junior section or CAPS Accredited will have aleady attended this course.

There will also be some overlap with clubs playing in more than one league as clubs will only get one place not one place per league.

The course is classroom based for 2-3 hours and can be delivered in an evening.

If your league would like the opportunity to be involved with this then please contact me. I have contact with Brett but you will need to arrange a night/venue and let teams know.

Look forward to hearing from you

FM Eclipse runs one of our local junior netball clubs and hold their junior training session on Friday evenings, 5:45 - 6:45pm, at John Hanson.

We should like to ask that you consider this when you arrive for the early matches and not to cross the courts when junior training is in progress.

Please go around the perimeter of the courts being used at that time, or preferably, if accessing the changing facilities, please walk through the school courtyard instead.

Thank you for your consideration.
Please can you pass this message on to all your team members.

Umpire Cover Slip‏ - Fran Richards

by andrea » Thu Oct 04, 2012 12:00 pm

1) Due to the problems with covering umpires on Fri evenings these last couple of weeks, we have decided to return to previous years. However, I would like to take this opportunity to point out that the teams without umpires or not enough, really do need to send members on umpire courses this season.

Attached is a slip for each team to complete & return to me no later then Tues 9th Oct with the names of the umpire covering your umpiring commitments.

Once the umpire rota has been amended & if there any spaces left to cover you will be able to clearly see who is not on the rota, enabling you to contact other umpires from the list to cover your commitments.

2) Borrowing of players - You must let the affiliation/registration secretary know before your match commences if you are to borrow a player(s). Umpire Cover Slip‏ - Fran Richards

by andrea » Thu Oct 04, 2012 12:00 pm

Team contacts,

Also, if you only have 7 players & want to put a guest player on your card this also must be notified to the affiliation/registration secretary, or a committee member, on the night before your match commences.

Please please please please please READ the rules!!!!

Order of Play/Umpire rota/Rules - Fran Richards

by andrea » Tue Sep 18, 2012 6:41 pm

Sorry for the delay in the attachments is Order of Play/Umpire rota/Rules.

The Umpire rota is for Sept to Nov other to follow later date, need to leave something for Cheryl to do!!!!!

Please take note of changes in the rules & pass this info on to all players & umpire's in your team.

The Umpiring forum being held on the 11th Oct 2012 has been cancelled, & is being re-arranged, I have asked for it to be held between Andover & Basingstoke. All ADNA umpires are being asked to attend as well as a representative from each team/club when it is held.

The Rule's will cover hopefully all the questions I am receiving!! if not don't hesitate to contact me.

Once you have got you matches covered by your own umpires please help those that need covering. Very important that once you have covered your duties I suggest that you confirm again with the umpire covering a week before she is due to umpire.

Happy Netballing for 2012/2013

Umpiring Update‏ - Cheryl Green

by andrea » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:00 pm

There is another umpiring course being run very shortly so anyone else who is interested please contact Fran asap.

With regard to umpiring protocol would both umpires agree which match ball is to be used at the beginning of the match, and then to take possession during the quarters placing the ball in the circle ring ready for play.

Umpiring duties. This year the team name will be put on the rota for the match to be umpired not an individual umpire. It is totally up to the team to make sure the duty is covered and that the umpire will turn up, possibly suggesting that the umpire is confirmed a few days before the match. If an umpire does not cover the duty the team will have points deducted.

Timing - umpires it is crucial that the matches are started and finished on time, is it your responsibility to make sure of this.

Thanks umpires most of all - enjoy :)

University of Exeter Research Project‏ - Dawn Morse

by andrea » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:01 am

My name is Dawn Morse and I am a Sports Science lecturer at Swindon College. I am currently working with the University of Exeter on a research project that aims to investigate natural support networks within sport. In the long term this research field is looking to design a support network intervention that can help to increase performance within sport and competition. However at this stage we aim to investigate the perceptions of natural support networks.

To enable us to complete this study we are looking for as many sport participants as possible to complete an online questionnaire. The questionnaire should take around 10 minutes to complete, is completely confidential and will provide us with valuable results. The questionnaire is hosted by a secure website so any information provided will only be used for the research purposes of this study. As it is an online questionnaire it provides instant results, so there is no need to return forms etc.

If you feel that this opportunity is something that yourself and club members would be happy to help out with, would be possible to pass the questionnaire link onto club members via e-mail, Facebook or twitter?

I have provided the link to the online research questionnaire below. Once the link is activated within an e-mail or put into the URL box on the web it will open the questionnaire. The front page of the online questionnaire informs users about the purpose of this research study. At this time we are looking for sports participants over the age of 18 to complete the questionnaire.

Venue for next years matches ALC‏ - Fran Richards

by andrea » Sun May 13, 2012 12:00 pm

We have an opportunity to return to the Andover Leisure Center on Friday evenings 2 courts, but the following needs to be considered:

1) Time's - can only have from 7.45 to 10pm, matches will have to be decreased each quarter to 12 mins????

2) The court costs will increase.

3) After Christmas matches will commence again early January

4) Will need 2nd venue (John Hanson School) inside for the 3rd match to be played, depending on how many teams enter next season or may play each other 3 times.

3) John Hanson School, time's would still be 7pm & 8.20pm.

Please go over this with ALL your team members & ALL Teams to get back to me no later than 26th May 2012 as we would like to sort dates & booking of the courts if we are to go ahead with the Andover Leisure centre.

Also like to mention we have had a meeting withThe Depot to talk about the venue & what would need to happen if we were to consider moving up there, but we would need to look for funding/grants to update & some re-arrangements of the courts but nothing has been agreed as yet. watch this space!!!! this would not be happening in the next year but the Andover Leisure centre is an opstion for now.

ADNA Waitrose Funding - Andrea Westley

by andrea » Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:05 pm

We have some fantastic news from Andover Waitrose Store! As of the 1st May for one month the ADNA has been chosen as one of the three community groups for this month to receive funding. If you are unsure of the scheme that they run monthly they choose three community groups from the local area to support. When purchasing something in their store you will receive a green token, this gets placed into one of the three boxes near the door as you leave. You don't need to do a big shop, even buying a paper you will receive a token ;)

There is a set amount of money put aside each month for this scheme so the group with the most tokens get a larger amount of funding.

So please spread the word to family, friends and team mates as the more people know about the Waitrose community matters scheme the more support we will get. The money received will help with costs of the ADNA league, things like this will help us to support your teams!

Happy shopping and look out for our token box for MAY!!! :D

This has proven more difficult then we first thought as our designers have found the text within downloaded version to become distorted once in PDF format which we obviously were not happy about. They are currently working on this as a high priority and I will email as soon as I have further information.

Once they become LIVE, you will be able log into the Individual Login Membership Page where you will find an additional option in the toolbar on the left which will say Request a Membership Card.

If you are currently an affiliated member of England Netball, you will be asked to provide an email address if we do not currently have one for you as a ‘pop up box’ will say “An email address needs to be entered on the contacts home address for them to receive a card”. If you then click OK and then Edit/View you will be able to add your email address along with any additional information to be stored on your personal record. Once complete then click Submit. You will then be able to click Request a Membership Card.

If you are not currently affiliated, you will not be able to Request a Membership Card as a ‘pop up box’ will say “For the Contact to receive a card they need to be affiliated and have paid”

You will be able to Request a Membership Card through your own Individual Login. If you are unsure of your Individual Login details then you can email us at affiliations@englandnetball.co.uk with subject heading ‘MY MEMBERSHIP NUMBER 2011/12’ and quote the name of your club, where we will respond to you direct with this information and also add your email address for future reference. If you are Under 18 you can assign a Parent/Guardian email address to your record if preferred. If you do not wish to add an email address at all you to your record your Club Secretary will be able to download and print this on your behalf.

Once again, sincere apologies for the delay in this process and I will be in contact again once this issue has been resolved.

Downloadable Membership Cards 11/12 Season‏ - Sam Castle

by andrea » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:29 am

I am emailing to notify you that the Downloadable Membership Cards for 11/12 season are now available for you to download.

As detailed in my previous email below from 30th November 2011, I would positively encourage you to login using your own Username and Password via the Online Individual Login Members Area.

If you are unsure of your Individual Login details then you can email us at affiliations@englandnetball.co.uk to request this using subject heading ‘MY MEMBERSHIP NUMBER 2011/12’ and quote the name of your club, where we will respond to you direct with this information and also add your email address for future reference. If you are Under 18 you can assign a Parent/Guardian email address to your record if preferred. If you do not wish to add an email address at all you to your record your Club Secretary will be able to download and print this on your behalf.

This new process will also mean that going forward the Membership Cards will be available to download immediately after your Club have received their England Netball Affiliation payment receipt email, which long term could potentially mean ‘same day payment / download Membership Card’.

Various - ADNA Committee

by andrea » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:29 pm

Firstly, would like to thank Andrea Westley & Kim Belbin for organising the ADNA quiz night, it went really well & all that attended enjoyed it. Also like to thank Phil for letting us use the arms & for the lovely food, was a bit busier then expected!!

Right then down to the netball stuff!!

1) Scorers - At the last committee meeting, after great discussions it was agreed that each team will provide a scorer as well as an umpire for each match for season 2012/2013. However, we would like you to take this opportunity to fase it in after the Christmas break, this means technically as well as you providing an umpire, you will now provide a scorer from your team before or after your match as well. During the fasing period, if there is only 1 scorer provided that scorer will stand behind but slightly away from the none scorer umpire so that the score's can be heard & confirm correct, when they are 2 scorers those scorers will stand together at the side or the back of the court & will take turns in shouting the score out after each goal is scored.

2) Fair Play - Bev King will be sending an email to all the team contacts/umpire's as what is expected & how the scoring of this should be & constructive criticism can be writing down by the umpire.

Best wishes to you all for Christmas & have a great new year.

ADNA Score Card Amnesty‏ - Bev King

by andrea » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:16 am

You may remember at this years AGM we discussed the fact that we are still receiving incomplete scorecards, despite explicit instructions being provided at each of the previous two AGMs.

A warning was given that this year the committee will penalise those teams who continue to submit incorrect cards, as per ADNA Rule 16:

Incorrect result cards may result in a fine:
The first offence will be a fine of £10, increasing with £5 with every further offence (ie second offence will be £15). If fine is not paid by next match the game will be forfeited (30 goals to the other team, five points off and all match fees to be paid).

If you need a reminder of how the card should be completed, details can be found on the ADNA website.
Score Cards

Last week nearly 50% of the cards submitted had errors.
However, the ADNA has decided to give all teams playing that night a 1 week amnesty - but from this week all result cards will be subject to the above ruling.

The only exceptions will be for Arrows Purple and Eclipse Box-IT, who did not have a game last week and hence their amnesty will be this week.

Please can you ensure all ADNA teams within your respective clubs are aware

Hampshire Academy Nominations‏ - Emily

by andrea » Wed Aug 24, 2011 9:29 pm

NOMINATIONS TO HAMPSHIRE NETBALL ACADEMY SCREENING

Please could I remind you to nominate players for the Hampshire Netball Academy screening as per my correspondence sent at the end of last term. I enclose copies of player nomination forms for your information and trial forms for the players.

As you may be aware England Netball has an Excel Pathway, the aim of the Pathway is to develop athletes with the attributes to attain excellence. Further information on the pathway can be found at www.englandnetball.co.uk/International/Excel

Essentially the academies are for players who are of a very high netball standard or have the potential to get there with transferable skills from other sports. The academy programmes focus on quality and not quantity, providing performance-enhancing training for these individuals, not squads. Competition is seen as valuable but is delivered outside the Excel Pathway programmes in clubs / schools leagues and tournaments.

Academies will also provide an opportunity for players to be seen by the Regional Talent Coach, and potentially the opportunity to move up the England Netball Excel pathway ladder.

As part of the Excel Pathway Hampshire will be running Netball Academies for the U14 (Satellite Academy) and U16 (County Academy) age groups. We are looking for players predominantly in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Players who are selected for the Academies will be expected to commit to a 10 week programme commencing in October. Coaching will take place between 7pm - 9pm on Wednesday at Winchester University.

Should you wish to nominate player(s) to attend the screening it is important that athletes understand the commitment if selected. Parents should also be aware of this commitment. It is heavily recommended that you have attended England Netball’s Talent Identification workshop to be able to nominate players. This workshop provides teachers and club coaches with the knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of a talented athlete in order to nominate athletes to an appropriate level within the Excel pathway.

If you have yet to attend the Talent ID workshop you can still put forward players which will be dealt with on a case by case basis. For example, If the coach putting names forward is of a suitable experience, players can be invited to attend screening directly. If the identification ability of a coach is unknown, players can be invited to attend a suitable event where they can be seen by a qualified nominator/scout. Where numbers are not an issue this may well be the Academy trials.

Hampshire Screening Information

Screening for the Academies will be held at Russell Howard Netball Centre, Basingstoke. For the under 16s on the 24th September and for the under 14s on the 1st October from 10am onwards.

Up to 20 players will be selected per Academy. The selection criteria will cover different skills which will include shooting, footwork and movement, getting free, defending, balance and ball control, mental attitude and concentration.

Should you wish to nominate player(s) to attend the screening please complete the attached entry form and the players to fill out the trial form and send to the Netball Development Officer by Friday, 16th September. Nominations received after this date will not be accepted for screening. Please also note that players who turn up on the screening date who have not completed an entry form will not be able to take part in the screening.

Players should wear a white t-shirt and dark skirt and no club colours. Appropriate footwear is essential and dark soled shoes are not permitted. This is the main place the players will be seen for the Academy.

The cost for screening will be £5.00 per player, please ensure this is sent in with the trial form. Once selected the overall academy cost will be £70.00 payable by cheque to Hampshire Netball Association at the first academy session plus £25.00 deposit for equipment. Please note that the cost of the Hampshire Netball Academy programme is subsidised by Hampshire Netball Association.

I look forward to receiving your nominations. In the meantime should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Netball South AGM‏ - Tracey Stone

by andrea » Thu Jun 02, 2011 9:31 pm

The Annual General Meeting of Netball South will take place on Thursday 16th June, 7pm at Basingstoke Rugby Club

An agenda will be circulated shortly.

Netball South is looking for members to be nominated to be part of the Regional Management Board (RMB) as Chair, Treasurer or a general member.

The RMB represent members of the South Region in relation to all aspects of the game from grass roots to the elite. As a member of the Board you will be expected to attend 4-6 meetings a year and commit to supporting and shaping the regions activities on an on-going basis outside of the meetings, possibly as a member of one of the technical support groups.

In particular there is an opportunity for a new Regional Chair who will lead a team of enthusiastic volunteers in the delivery of the Regional plan.

What support is there in the role of Regional Chair or Board Member?

The Regional Unit (consisting of Regional Manager, Regional Co-ordinator and Regional Excel Coach) work closely alongside the Regional Chair and offer support; in particular the Regional Co-ordinator offers administration support. The Regional Chair is also involved in England Netball’s Regional Chair Forum which provides an opportunity to share ideas and work to find solutions with others in the same position

What is the Commitment of the Regional Chair?

In addition to chairing the 4 – 6 RMB meetings the Regional Chair also provides on- going support as required to the various technical support groups that work within the Netball South region. The chair is also responsible for pulling together the annual report in preparation for the AGM and is in regular communication with many people and groups from across the region as appropriate. Outside of the South, the Regional Chair is involved in England Netball’s Regional Chair forum which is a combination of meetings/forums (often around other events, e.g. test matches) and conference calls. Travel expenses are paid.

For more information on becoming an elected member of the Regional Management Board please contact the Regional Office, click here for a nomination form.

Inspiring You: Activities for All Funding Update‏ - Kaz White

by andrea » Tue May 17, 2011 9:56 pm

Inspiring You: Activities for All Funding Update

In 2010/2011 we approved over 300 funding applications to run inclusive recreation and leisure activities as part of Hampshire County Council's 'Aiming High for Disabled Children' programme. Thank you to all of the groups and organisations that played their part in making Hampshire more inclusive for all. We have had some fantastic feedback about the Inspiring You activities, with families highlighting how good it is to be able to access such a wide range of activities across the county.

For many organisations the funding has helped to train staff, purchase resources and help build working relationships with families so as to increase knowledge and understanding.

So what next?

We want to ensure that these children and young people continue to get the same range of recreational opportunities as their peers. We want families to know that their children have the right to have the same opportunities as others without paying additional costs. At the same time we need to work with organisations to ensure that activities offered are sustainable.

This year we have been allocated funding to support ongoing development of recreation and leisure activities in Hampshire. Please find the guidance notes attached. Key considerations for the allocation of this funding will be:

•Achieving a geographical spread of provision
•Sustainability of schemes
•Value for money
•Number of activity hours being offered
•Number of places being offered
•Effective plans for communication

Note: Projects will be funded for a maximum of £5,000. Please send all applications direct to Oliver Hine in the Children's Services Department.

Meanwhile please continue to use the Inspiring You logo to highlight the inclusive activities you run and remember that Parent Voice are always keen to advertise all inclusive events and activities on your behalf (www.parentvoice.info).

Players/Umpire Code Of Conduct‏ - Fran Richards

by andrea » Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:57 pm

At last weeks fixture there was an incident that was contrary to players/umpire code of conduct.

May we remind you all that this will not be tolerated & should any further incidents occur then Rule 13 paragraph 3will apply.

URGENT ATTENTION!!!!! - Fran Richards

by andrea » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:24 pm

Please pass on to your team members:

1) Please remember when matches are in progress & the ball & Umpire are up the end of the court that you want to walk past to get to the court you are next playing on, please WAIT until the ball is in the other end of the court, last night I saw quite a lot of players just walking past when the umpire was up that end of the court & one just walked right in front of an umpire, you know who you are!!!!

2) If you are the first team there of the evening then please remember it was agreed that you would be the team that got the netball equipment from the store room at the bottom of the steps.

The above is a MUST, if we see any members over the coming weeks doing item 1, there may well be a fine for that team.

Much appreciate your co-operation on these subjects.

Arranged Fixtures - ADNA Committee

by andrea » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:34 pm

Happy New Year from the ADNA Committee!

We hope your all fit and ready for matches again after eating all them mince pies!

Please find the new re-arranged fixtures for the second half of the season available on the website. So far, we have had three weeks of matches rained off and The Bell have withdrawn from the 10/11 Winter league. The committee have chosen to slot the wet weather matches into the spaces left by The Bell’s matches where possible.
A minimal number of other matches may have been switched to allow the least amount of disruption for the league to run as smoothly as possible.

Please check carefully as all teams do have at least one amendment to their fixtures.

England Netball needs your help in obtaining young people's opinions! - Rebecca Skinner

by andrea » Thu Nov 11, 2010 7:08 pm

England Netball needs your help in obtaining young people’s opinions!

England Netball is keen to continuously improve netball and to help us with this we are looking to obtain the opinions of young people. We have created two surveys. The first is aimed at Primary aged children and the second at Secondary aged pupils. If you know anyone that would be willing to complete the short survey please forward this onto them. Completing the survey will only take them 5 – 10 minutes and they’ll be entered into a prize draw to win tickets for them and three of their friends and family to watch an England Match.

The Primary survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/Primary_School It must be completed by Saturday 20th November.

The Secondary Survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/SecondarySchool It must be completed by Thursday 25th November.

Hampshire Playing Fields Association (HPFA) - Emily Loftus

by andrea » Thu Nov 04, 2010 6:50 pm

Quick message regarding a presentation that I went to from the Hampshire Playing Fields Association (HPFA). Their website is www.thehpfa.org and they not only fund children's out of school play but also voluntary sport in Hampshire. They are a registered charity and have approximately £500k in the bank and spend the interest each year as grants and loans. They normally fund grants up to 10% of the cost of a project and support all aspects of projects to a maximum of about £2,500. They will not however support 'social' accommodation - i.e. no bars!

They have given away over £125k of grants and low interest loans since Feb 2008. Low interest loans are available over 3 years and there is nothing to pay in the first year. Grants are awarded annually once projects are completed but can be fast tracked. There are some clauses however, applications are not accepted from IOW or Southampton as there is a requirement for the Local Authority to buy into the scheme and they have so far not wished to be part of it. Clubs need to pay to be a member of the charity also but there is a spending review at present or as a non member there is a cost of £50 per application. As an example; Their last voluntary sports grant award was for a outdoor concrete Table Tennis table in Winchester.

by andrea » Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:42 pm

On 19 January 2011, England will once again return to International netball action and this time take on world number two, New Zealand.
Last year's game against Australia provided an amazing spectacle for the sell out crowd at The O2 and the electric atmosphere promises to once again showcase International Netball at a fantastic speed and at its most skilful.

England v New Zealand is part of a three game series and vital for both teams in their preparations for the World Netball Championships in Singapore in July 2011. This match will display some of the best players in the world demonstrating netball of the highest quality and showcasing technical skill and ability at a fantastic pace.

"England v New Zealand will provide fantastic entertainment and at this level the game is fast paced, physical and ferocious... Spectators will be amazed!" - England Netball

It's going to be a great evening for netball fans to experience and the perfect opportunity to introduce new spectators to the sport.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 1 October via The o2 Arena or 08444 8560202.

Lewis's Charity Netball Tournament Round Up - Andrea Westley

by andrea » Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:22 pm

The Charity Netball tournament on Friday 17th September at John Hanson consisted of ten teams divided into two groups. The winners of each group would go on to face each other in the final to win the title. The results of the group stage can be found below,

Group 1
The Bell 20 WINNERS OF GROUP
Simply ACES 14
Eclipse Online 13
Andover Saws 8
Eclipse Box IT 0

Group 2
FM Eclipse 18 WINNERS OF GROUP
KWD 18
Specsavers 11
Vernon Vixens 6
Simply Health 2

Winners of Group One The Bell went into the final to face FM Eclipse winners of Group Two with a greater goal difference than KWD. This was a fast game with both teams showing their strength in all positions. The Bell defended strongly but FM Eclipse crept forward slowly to create a good goal lead in the first half. The Bell started the second half strongly, determined to regain play but they were no match for the fluent FM Eclipse. The final score was FM Eclipse 8 vs The Bell 4.

Robyn Tobutt won the Penalty shoot out that took place during the group stages with a score of 25, winning a netball as her prize.

Lewis's Charity Netball tournament - Ceilidh Kemp

by andrea » Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:25 pm

Thank you to everyone who supported us in our charity Netball tournament on Friday 17th September at John Hanson. We had some great netball being played and we have had some very positive feedback about it.

We received many wonderful prizes from the local companies and kindly from some of our own players in the Andover League.

For those of you who were unable to come along we had a raffle, hot dogs, refreshments and a penalty shoot out. I am pleased to let you all know that we raised a fantastic £522.11 towards Lewis's bed. I know Vanessa is over the moon about the amount and I am sure those of you who met Lewis will agree he is a lovely little boy!

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Welcome Tournament - Vanessa Lloyd

by andrea » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:58 pm

I hope you've had a good summer and are looking forward to the welcome tournament next week.

As I'm sure you're all aware the League have kindly agreed to use the event to kick start the fundraising for a specialised bed for my son Lewis. The organisation of such an event has been a challenge in itself and I'd like to start by saying a huge thanks to Ceilidh who has been a great support to me and had to field a fair few of ridiculous questions along the way. I would be very grateful if you could remind the teams that in addition to the netball there will also be, a shooting competition, a raffle, a hotdog stall and we will also be selling sweets and drinks - so encourage them to bring some spectators and of course their pennies!!

A bit about why we are fundraising for Lewis...

For those of you who don't know me, I play [usally as GS or GA] for The Bell. I am a Mum of 3 and my youngest son Lewis was born 3 years ago with Spina Bifida and Hydracephalus. He is a very sociable little man and copes very well with the challenges he faces as a result of his disability. Lewis’ Spina Bifida means that he has no feeling below the waist and wears splints on both legs to provide the support required for walking; he uses a walking frame at all times. He can only walk a matter of 20m or so, before he becomes tired and asks for help. Despite his determination, as he grows he is finding longer distances more and more difficult. Lewis is also beginning to show some frustration with regard to not be able to keep up with his peers, and older sister and brother, who are very considerate towards him and for this reason he has been placed on a waiting list for a standard wheelchair.

Recently we were advised by the Occupational Therapist that Lewis would benefit greatly from a ‘high to low’ electronic bed to assist him in becoming more independent. Unfortunately, this type of bed is expensive [approximately £3000] and the NHS does not provide funding for such equipment. Clearly, as he grows, he will become more and more difficult to lift from the mattress, where he now sleeps, in order to provide the essential medical care that is required for him at night time.

Whilst there are charities that will provide some assistance, we as a family have decided to see how much money we can raise towards the bed - call it pride or just wanting to be able to say that we're doing all we can to porvide for our children...

Thanking you in anticipation for your support!!

Rules Related to Acrylic Nails‏ - Sheelagh Redpath

by andrea » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:17 am

As you know at times England Netball are approached to answer rules questions posed by either yourselves or England Netball members. More often than not the response given by England Netball will have been discussed via the current EN Rules Board of Cheryl Danson, Bill Alexander and myself - if further clarification is required England Netball would then contact IFNA for a response

In an effort to ensure that information is disseminated wider than just the person asking the question I have decided that until information is inputted on to the Officiating website (a project for the future) then I will be making every effort to not only respond to the individual but also to you as regional umpiring personnel.

It would then be very much appreciated if you could disseminate the information through to yoru counties and leagues. Some questions will also appear from time to time in the Netball magazine.

So where and when do we start - well right now with the following question on Acrylic nails

Question: Please can you advise what action can be taken against players with acrylic nails. We are getting more and more incidents of players turning up to play who have acrylic nails.

Answer: Rule 1.4.5 clearly states that Fingernails, shall be short and smooth. If their fingernails conform to this rule then they can participate, whether their nails are square or round.

Please beware that should a player be wearing Acrylic nails which do not conform to the above, then they should not participate according to the rule. If the players Acrylic nails do conform to the rule, and they subsequently suffer damage to their nail(s) then, they participate at their own risk and they would not covered by any England Netball Insurance.

rules relating to the wearing of sunglasses - Sheelagh Redpath

by andrea » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:07 am

Please find another directive which has been agreed by the England Netball Rules board in relation to the wearing of Sunglasses whilst participating in England Netball activities

Sunglasses should not normally be worn when participating in Netball activities. However, sunglasses may be worn for genuine medical reasons when participating in recognised and authorised England Netball netball activities. If sunglasses are required for genuine medical reasons, then an appropriate medical certificate must be supplied to England Netball (or the appropriate league, county or region)

If a player/coach/official has to wear glasses for medical reasons then she/he is fully insured from an England Netball point of view. However if the glasses become damaged due to a netball accident then these are not insured.

This guidance applies to Netball Activities within England Netball only.

The Hampshire Netball Association Committee - Janette Morgan

• All players in Hampshire contribute £6 towards Netball in Hampshire - for that contribution players get access to courses eg to develop their umpiring or coaching or about safeguarding where clubs have junior players. Your money contributes towards paying for tutors, training those tutors, materials for courses, venues, certificates etc. Lots of umpires, coaches, players and clubs attend courses at a subsidised rate due to your contribution. We also work with schools in Hampshire, those returning to Netball and minority groups.

• Hampshire Netball will respond to ideas from any clubs or players who request courses.
Hampshire Netball award bursaries - if you are going on a course, all you have to do is complete the bursary form which is on the Hampshire website and send it in - how to and timeframes are all on the website. You can then receive help towards the cost of attending courses.

• Hampshire Netball are running mentoring courses to help expand and develop the number of qualified umpires and ensure that the mentoring umpires receive is from trained mentors. Andover will have trained mentors this summer working with those who attended the recent umpires course.

• Hampshire have set up their own awards and all of you are eligible to make nominations and be nominated. Next year I would ask that you do nominate as we have so may deserving people in Andover who should be recognised.

• Finally every winner of a League in Hampshire can go through to playoffs for a place in the Regional League. I would urge next years League winners to take up this opportunity so that we may have an Andover representaitve side in the Regional League. This would encourage our up and coming players. For example Amy Flanagham from Rushmoor is now in the England U17 squad and Andover could have players cabable of achieving this standard if we can provide the opportunity. Andover has some quality coaches who would be willing to take on a Regional side.

• Hampshire aims to improve the standard of play and enjoyment of Netball in our region by raising the quality of coaches and umpires and developing skills and overal organisation of Hampshire Leagues.

Anyone who has any items they would like me to take to the Hampshire committe please get in touch - you can use the contact box on this website or ring me direct - my number is on the umpire list.

Hampshire Games Volunteer Umpires‏ - Emily Loftus

by andrea » Fri May 28, 2010 9:23 pm

Hampshire Games 2010

As you may be aware, Hampshire runs two very successful partnership games, one of which includes Netball: The Hampshire Games. This event provides young people with an opportunity to represent their local authority in a county wide event.

For some of these young people, this will be their first opportunity to take part in such a competition. It is a fantastic day for all the participants and is a great introduction to the sport for those who have never played before. To make sure the event is a success we rely on volunteers who would umpire the matches. We are looking for a large number of volunteer umpires with a variety of experience. As a volunteer you will receive a tee shirt and a packed lunch.

If you are interested in taking part as an volunteer umpire, please could you complete and return the form below as soon as you can. Or please pass onto anyone else who you feel maybe interested.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
